(TRINIDAD, Colo.) – Mitchell Gray, Kaitlyn Smith and Megan Cosslett were the 2016-2017 recipients of the prestigious George W. Scott Award for academic excellence at Trinidad State Junior College. The George W. Scott Award is presented annually to the Trinidad State athlete, or athletes, who have participated in one or more major sports over three consecutive semesters and have the highest scholastic record of all athletes over that same period.
Mitchell Gray was a 4.0 student originally coming to TSJC from Summit High School in Frisco, Colorado. He was a pitcher for the Trojan Baseball team appearing in seven games this season, striking out ten batters over 12 innings of work. Kaitlyn Smith was a defensive specialist for Coach Melissa Hardman and the TSJC Volleyball team originally from Woodland Park, Colorado. She received the prestigious Kane Scholarship and plans to continue her education at UCCS. Megan Cosslett, from Grand Junction was a power hitting first baseman for the Trojan Softball team. She hit six home runs in her two seasons at TSJC to go along with her exceptional work in the classroom.
The George W. Scott award is named for long-time Coach and Administrator George W. Scott who led Trojan athletics in the 1930's. Scott Gym on the Trinidad State campus also bears his name.
